Tactical Advice for Strategic Change in a Brownfield

Change is hard, especially in mature enterprises that are heavily regulated. However, competitive pressures are encouraging companies to implement strategic initiatives to be more “DevOpsy”. Looking at the CALMS framework, tactical advice on Automation and Metrics abound, similar advice for Culture, Lean, and Sharing is often overlooked. This presentation will cover tactics for these three pillars that my team is implementing to promote change for a 15 year old business service, including:

  1. Implementing a central issue repository
  2. Implementing a standard measure of reliability
  3. Building a value stream map
